Trump signs bill to re-open the government for 3 weeks.

President Trump called a meeting at the Rose Garden around 1:30 PM Eastern Time, where he announced that he would be signing the Clean CR bill for 3 weeks, in order to negotiate for the border wall. If there is no new deal that includes border funding, the government will either be shut down once again, or President Trump will declare a state of national emergency to redirect funds from the military.

This was probably the smartest possible move for the President to do. This is due to the fact that the President had lost the government shutdown in the public’s eyes the second he said he would take the mantle and not blame the Democrats for it. By re-opening the government and giving the Dems exactly what they wanted, he can officially re-direct the blame to them when they inevitably fail because they refuse to provide funding for a wall.

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer made a brief statement after the President’s address to the nation. They were obviously giddy that they had won this shutdown. Sen. Schumer had said in his statements that he, “hopes the President has learned his lesson from this.” Nancy Pelosi, having previously blamed the government shutdown as the reason she cannot hold the state of the union address, has not yet stated as to whether or not this changes her official ruling about January 29th.

President Trump opened the government after 35 days of it being shutdown and having workers furloughed. He maintains that this is “in no way a concession.” Instead he argues, “It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!”

If, and when the government shuts down once more, check back to our blog and we will have the coverage.
